Lower School (4th-6th Grade)

For our Lower School program spanning 4th to 6th Grade, we offer a comprehensive curriculum that builds upon the bilingual foundation established in earlier years while expanding students’ academic horizons in all other key subjects.

Language (50% English, 40% Spanish & 10% French)

Language instruction is divided into three components: 40% of the curriculum focuses on either Spanish or French, 10% on the second language (French or Spanish), and the remaining 50% on English. This structure allows students to deepen their fluency in their primary language while maintaining proficiency in the secondary language and advancing their English skills. This balanced approach ensures continued language proficiency and cultural understanding.

Math (Spanish or French) + English

Mathematics instruction is provided bilingually, with concepts presented in both Spanish or French and English. This approach strengthens students’ mathematical abilities while reinforcing their language skills and problem-solving strategies. We teach students to learn in the actual language, not just learning the language. This further deepens their understanding and application of mathematical principles.

STEM (Spanish or French) + English

STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) education is taught in Spanish or French, as well as English. Again, we teach students in the language, so students become agile thinkers as this approach allows students to explore STEM concepts and practices in both languages, fostering critical thinking, problem-solving, and innovation skills.

Art (Spanish or French) + English

Art classes are similarly divided, with 50% of instruction in either Spanish or French and 50% in English. This allows students to explore their creativity in different languages and cultural contexts, fostering a deeper appreciation for the arts. We provide students with opportunities to explore their creativity, express themselves through various artistic mediums, and learn about different cultural and artistic traditions.

Social Studies (English)

Social Studies instruction primarily takes place in English, allowing students to delve into topics related to history, geography, civics, and culture with a focus on critical analysis from a global perspective.

Music (English)

Music education is fundamental. Music education is primarily in English, providing students with opportunities to explore different musical genres, develop their musical abilities, and cultivate an appreciation for music. Music education enhances cognitive abilities, including memory and problem-solving skills, and fosters creativity and self-expression.

Physical Education (PE) (English)

Physical Education (PE) is taught in English, emphasizing the importance of physical fitness, motor skills development, learning different sports, and teamwork. At Kintess, we provide a large outdoor space for our students to enhance their health. Exercising outdoors offers a multitude of benefits for both physical and mental well-being. The fresh air and natural surroundings can invigorate the body and mind, providing a refreshing change from indoor environments. Outdoor exercise also exposes individuals to natural light, which can help regulate sleep patterns and improve mood.

Outdoor activities can involve varying terrain and elements, which can challenge the body in different ways and improve balance, coordination, and agility. Exercising outdoors also allows our students to connect with nature, which has been shown to reduce stress and anxiety levels.

Our Lower School curriculum for 4th-6th Grade builds upon the bilingual foundation established in earlier years, providing students with a well-rounded education that prepares them for academic success and global citizenship. We constantly challenge our students to uncover and nurture their individual talents. We are preparing them for continued success in their educational journey and beyond.
